romney and obama facing off last night in their first presidential debate. among the topics they sparred over, revenue. take a listen. >> there has to be revenue in addition to cuts. now, governor romney has ruled out revenue. he's ruled out revenue. >> absolutely. look, the revenue i get is by more people working, getting higher pay, paying more taxes. that's how we get growth and how we balance the budget. but the idea of taxing people more, putting more people out of work, you'll never get there. >> for reaction from the obama campaign, the co-founder and former ceo of car max, austin leggen joins us from richmond, virginia. austin, good morning to you. >> good morning. how are you? >> good. i'd love to get your take on that specific moment which has been cited by many to be one of romney's most coherent, concise arguments for his view of the role of government. you agree? >> well, it may have been quick and a good sound bite, but it's not very coherent or concise. what he says is growth will give you revenue which will give you growth. i mean, what he's

big debate between the president and his republican challenger, mitt romney. it wasn't that long ago that rick perry was one of the challengers for the republican nomination for president. i asked him what he thinks romney is going to do tonight and how he is going to do in tonight's debate. >> this president has to defend the debt that's being created and i think governor romney's going to do a very good job of one of growth, of one of allowing the states to be more engaged in policies. >> reporter: so, of course, he thinks romney is going to do good tonight. is he partisan, no doubt about that. we'll see how it plays out. >> david, i understand that you're still going to talk to kyle bass in a few minutes. what is top of questions in your mind? >> kyle is a big macro thinker. he also runs a hedge fund that makes stock picks like everybody else. we're also going to talk about, first off, the growing debt world we're going to talk about that and might talk about stock runs in about ten minutes from now. >> all right. thank you very much, david faber. >> "the w

then on the 16th you got the second obama-romney debate. on the 22nd final obama-romney debate. then the last friday before the election one more jobs number. my own inclination the job numbers aren't quite as "game change"ing for debates as for the reason voters know how they feel about the economy. they don't need a government report. it does get a lot of attention and we got a race that's plainly at this point even though obama still has a slight advantage in the battleground states this race can go either way. >> interesting. then we got the governor, of course, speaking at vmi about foreign policy, an area for which a little while he appeared to want to take the campaign, at least before the debate. how ground moving is this? >> reporter: i don't think it's very ground moving. it's not what people will vote on. for romney it's an effort to press a leadership advantage which may be one of the things that move the numbers for him after the debate. he looks strong on the stage with president obama. he took the fight to obama. obama was a little bit more passive. but ultimately

there was an op-ed below mitt romney's and the next battleground in the state labor wars. i will summarize. michigan will have a constitutional state amendment on their ballot in november. to make it jordan sweet, it will really empower unions, so potentially what happened in indiana, right to work state won't happen. my question is, boy, michigan, how well did the unions and the auto industry turn out? think gm bailout. this is shocking to me because the states that seem to be going the other way show so much more economic depth in the recovery. thoughts? >> well, first of all, you're right. the key on this question, though, to look a little bit deeper is that it is really about public employee unions because the private unions are protected by federal law, but what this question is on the ballot is basically saying that the rights of collective bargaining apply to all public employees, so let's take it one step further. what it really means is when it comes to michigan and the state government's ability to say, look, foodservice in the schools will be handled by private
